Construction Underway at Victoria House

Construction has commenced at Hesperia’s heritage-listed Victoria House development in Shenton Park.

In recognition of the Elders and Traditional Owners of the land, local Whadjuk Elder Vaughan McGuire conducted a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony prior to the ground breaking. The smoking ceremony is recognition of starting ‘afresh’ and acknowledging the past and future Elders and community members.

Hesperia’s Kyle Jeavons and Jo Bennett were joined at the ceremony by Daniel Cady MLC, Dean Munford from DevelopmentWA and Jason Thomson from PACT, the project’s construction partner.

Sitting at the heart of Montario Quarter’s village precinct, the $65 million project will include three boutique residential buildings alongside the rejuvenated Victoria House, which will become home to local hospitality and health-related businesses.

According to Hesperia’s Kyle Jeavons, the project has been well received by buyers due to its unique interplay between old and new, high quality design and superb location.

“Since launching the project late last year we’ve received a strong response from buyers with a significant portion of the residences now sold as we head into the construction phase of the development.”

“The use of locally sourced brick for the new residences has been derived from the existing 1938 heritage building and character of Shenton Park instilling a sense of neighbourhood familiarity from the outset. What has also appealed to buyers is the landscape setting and considered design, with features such as higher than average ceilings and fewer residences per floor.”

“The unique proposition of living within a Heritage project that is located only 6km from the CBD and beach is also something our future resident have really embraced as part of their decision to purchase and we look forward to bringing the vision for our future community to life as we enter into this exciting construction phase of the development,” said Kyle.

In addition to the residential component of the development, on completion, the project is set to house a carefully curated mix of retail, health and hospitality tenants, with an announcement including some of Western Australia’s most renowned operators to follow in the coming months.

The construction of the Victoria House project will also create upwards of 350 direct construction jobs, making it an important project for the state.

Echoing this sentiment, DevelopmentWA chief executive Frank Marra said it’s fantastic to see the Victoria House development coming to life and congratulates Hesperia on this milestone.

“Through developments such as Victoria House, we continue to support the Western Australian construction industry, creating local jobs and supporting the State’s COVID-19 economic recovery.”

“This emerging urban village is within minutes of quality schools, key public transport routes and retail and medical services, and offers both great proximity to the CBD and the beach and I look forward to seeing the completion of such a fantastic addition to Montario Quarter,” said Mr Marra.

PACT Construction’s General Manager Jason Thomson said that being appointed as the construction partner for the Victoria House project was a privilege and the team were looking forward delivering the bespoke development.

“Once again we are honoured to be working with Hesperia on such a unique development; one that combines heritage elements with modern architecture. The end result will be something very special for residents and the local community alike,” said Mr Thomson.

Dale Alcock, Managing Director of PACT Construction’s parent company, ABN Group said, “It’s really exciting to be part of the Victoria House development, a beautiful example of how heritage buildings can be integrated with housing and amenity to create an engaging community.”

Victoria House offers a range of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom residences and a limited number of penthouses with the entire development targeting a five-star Green Star and eight-star NatHERS rating.
