Hesperia submits Development Application for WA’s first specialist orthopaedic hospital

Hesperia has submitted a Development Application on behalf of its joint venture partner, St John of God Health Care, for the construction of Western Australia’s first specialist orthopaedic hospital.

This unique development represents an innovative partnership between Hesperia, one of Australia’s largest Catholic health services providers, and 24 leading orthopaedic surgeons to develop the hospital, which will be operated by St John of God Health Care.

Situated at 100 Murdoch Drive on the eastern edge of St John of God Murdoch Hospital, Orthonova Orthopaedic Hospital will play a pivotal role in meeting the increasing demand for orthopaedic surgery in Perth’s south metropolitan area. Equipped with state-of-the-art robotics for joint replacement surgery, the hospital will provide cutting-edge medical care for patients.

Hesperia Managing Director Ben Lisle said the state-of-the-art building would meet the very specific needs of orthopaedic surgeons and was being purpose-built for them.

“The innovation in this important project starts with the project partnership, which we believe shows a new way for the private and not-for-profit sectors to work with specialist health practitioners to deliver important medical infrastructure in a timely and efficient way that will address growing patient demand,” Ben said.

The four-storey hospital has been designed to create efficient pathways between surgery suites, four operating theatres, recovery areas and two, 40-bed inpatient wards. It will also boast a linking corridor to St John of God Murdoch’s existing 510-bed hospital and is targeting 5-star Green Star Building certification.

Orthonova will help to realise the State Government’s long-term vision to establish the Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct as a substantial medical, education, commercial and residential centre 13 km south of Perth’s CBD.

While the Development Application represents the first of its kind in Western Australia, plans are underway for a second facility by Hesperia and St John God of Health Care joint venture groups to extend services into the northern metropolitan area.
