Western Australia’s first 6-Star Green Star industrial facility delivered for Sandvik at Roe Highway Logistics Park

Hesperia has been recognised for delivering Western Australia’s first 6-Star Green Star – Design & As Built industrial facility at their Roe Highway Logistics Park (ROE) project for international mining tenant Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions.

The Green Star sustainability rating system is recognised on an international scale, with 6 Star reserved for highly efficient buildings, meeting strict environmental and social issues while contributing to the community.

The facility built by Q Design and Construct includes a 10,500sqm warehouse, 500sqm double storey office, and 220sqm dock office with a 3,615sqm super awning for outdoor storage. It features 100kV solar and 67Kwh battery storage, a dual electric vehicle charging station, low carbon concrete, energy-efficient lighting, and a rainwater harvesting system.

Sandvik’s Indirect Purchasing Manager, Malcolm Ashley is excited to expand operations in the estate.

“We explored multiple industrial options in the Perth Metropolitan Area and Roe Highway Logistics Park ticked all the boxes in terms of sustainable design and carbon-neutral solutions. We are committed to shifting toward becoming net-zero, and we are so proud to have delivered such a landmark project,” Mr Ashley said.

ROE is committed to delivering 40kW of solar per facility, utilising low carbon building materials, best practice wastewater management, and the strategic conservation of a Red-Tailed Black Forest Cockatoo habitat. The project is committed to becoming carbon neutral in 2022.

Hesperia Director, Judd Dyer said, environmentally conscious companies, such as Sandvik, are attracted to ROE due to its prime location and market-leading sustainability initiatives.

“We are proud to be Western Australia’s first 6-star Green Star industrial facility and for the project team’s effort to deliver this. The project required significant commitment from the builder, tenant, owners, and developers to deliver this milestone achievement. It takes real collaboration to deliver these results,” Mr Dyer said.

ROE has received a number of awards for its sustainability initiatives, most recently receiving the 2022 UDIA National Environmental Excellence Award for its outstanding response to conservation and environmental sustainability. Other awards include, the 2021 UDIA WA Environmental Excellence Award, the 2021 PCA Best Industrial Development Award and the 2021 PCA Best Sustainable Development Award. ROE is on track to become Western Australia’s first carbon-neutral industrial estate.
